Arkansas Fallen Heroes

In addition to the Race please come down to the Green Forest Tiger Stadium (weather permitting) to view the Arkansas Fallen Heroes Memorial  http://www.arkansasfallenheroesmemorial.org/ .  The 2016 Rat Race is privileged to host the Fallen Heroes Memorial along with Wilson Combat.  This is a beautiful and amazing display honouring the 146 Arkansas service members who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom since 9-11.

The Arkansas Fallen Heroes Memorial was founded in October, 2005, by Gold Star dad, Rob Hopper of Wynne, Arkansas.  Rob's youngest son, Marine Lance Corporal Brian Chase Hopper, was killed on January 26, 2005.  Brian's unit was flying in Western Iraq to guard the first inaugural election in Iraq when a sandstorm hit and the helicopter he was in crashed killing all 31 men inside.

After that day Rob decided that he wanted to do something to remember his son and all of the Arkansans that have died defending our country in the war on terrorism.  He purchased  a 3' x 5' flag for each Arkansas soldier who has died since September 11, 2001, and created a traveling flag field.  People are able to walk among the flags, see the pictures, and read about the heroes that are honored.

In May, 2014, Arkansas Run for the Fallen joined Rob in continuing to display this flag field.  When asked about the purpose of this memorial flag field, Rob stated, "We are not here to honor what happened to these Fallen Heroes, but to honor who they were, what they were doing, and what they had become, and to thank them by forever remembering them for paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and rights that we have today."
